A Giant Celebration
I reached a milestone birthday this July. Instead of another party, I opted for something bigger… a trip to Branson, Missouri for a week to experience an item on my bucket list. So my husband and I hit the road on Monday afternoon and headed to the Sight and Sounds Theater to view the “David” production. Plus, we attended a few other attractions. As we got closer to Missouri, the beautiful landscapes burst into view.
We settled into our hotel, went to dinner, and the next day, the celebration began. But the giant moment for me appeared on my birthday, Wednesday, July 30. We headed to the theater for the 11:30am showing. Words fail to describe the anticipation and excitement I felt. The giant theater… with giant screens… giant props… and a giant audience waiting to see the famous scene… David facing the giant Goliath.
Most of you know how much I enjoy writing, producing, and directing live productions. I scrutinized every detail. The production blew my mind. I sat there… in awe. My mind traveled back to the productions my son, Ryan and I produced. They fell on the small end of the scale compared to this giant production. But I realized we did our best with what the Lord gave us …. they worked with a giant budget….we lacked one (smile).
As I always do, I started to think about the message in the production. Most people are familiar with the story of David and the giant Goliath. But as I watched this production unfold, I watched the real giant emerge….. not Goliath… David.
David….small in statue, but a giant heart for the Lord.
— small in weaponry (sling shot and stones), but a giant belief that God would use his unique weapons designed for him to defeat the enemy.
— small in position (a mere shepherd boy), but giant strength and leadership fit for a future king.
When David stood before this massive and intimidating foe, his eyes focused on God. Leaning on his giant faith, Goliath appeared as a mere dwarf in David’s eyes. As I watched Goliath fall (the scene was simply amazing), the realization of this familiar story came alive.
I experienced the feelings David probably went through, but he allowed his faith to override them. David realized that the battle belonged to the Lord and put his weapons, skills, and giant faith into God’s hands. Giant trust = giant victory!
How many times do we face the giants of this world, yet fail to respond with giant faith in a giant God we serve? How many times do we allow our fear to override our faith? Sadly, I personally acknowledge… too many times. The only giant in our lives should be God! He just asks us to put the battle in His hands and trust Him!
When David marched and danced in light of the victory, a giant celebration followed. David defeated a man using giant intimidation, fear tactics. Goliath fell to a man using giant faith, a sling shot, and stones.
What a lesson! What a production! I talked with my family and friends about it the rest of the day. Later that evening, my husband and I topped the night off at the Motown Review! Like David, my birthday proved to indeed be a giant celebration!
I don’t know about you, but my milestone birthday ended up testing my faith. I serve a giant God! If I desire my enemies and fears to appear as dwarfs, I must put my battles in His hands. If I give Him my weapons and skills and lean on my giant faith, I can confidently face all of my fears. Why? Simply …
