My Heart Holder

Valentine’s Day… a day to reflect on hearts. Not the candy conversation hearts or the countless boxes of chocolates. Not the heart-shaped wreaths of roses or inflated balloons floating in every grocery store. Not the Hallmark cards in heart designs penned with sentiments of love. Not Cupid’s heart-carved arrow ready to pierce someone’s heart.

For many, it’s a day to remember a broken heart. A heart yearning year after year for a significant other. A heart with a spouse, yet finds no love or shelter in his/her arms. Perhaps someone you loved dearly broke your heart. Maybe someone broke your heart over and over again leaving you with bitter feelings about love. And now your ripped apart heart leaves you in shambles and feeling worthless.

Whatever the situation, I have great news for you. I ran across an old song by Marvin Gaye that many of you may remember. The song, “How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved by You) reminded me of how to deal with a broken heart.

See, you must remember that you are not defined by someone who broke your heart. You are defined by the Savior, Jesus Christ who HOLDS your heart! You are “fearfully and wonderfully made” by  the one who keeps your heart beating daily for Him!

The chorus of the song goes like this: (if you want to sing along, feel free.)

Chorus: How sweet it is to be loved by you
Yes baby, ooh-ooh-ooh
How sweet it is to be loved by you
Ooh baby!

Now lets change the lyrics just a bit and add the verses and you will get the message.

Chorus: How sweet it is to be loved by You
Jesus, ooh-ooh-ooh
How sweet it is to be loved by You
Ooh Jesus!

Verse 1: I needed the shelter of someone’s arms….and there You were
I needed someone to understand my ups and downs… and there You were
With sweet love and devotion…. deeply touching my emotion
I want to stop (Stop) and thank You, Jesus
I just want to stop (Stop) and thank You Jesus

Chorus

Verse 2: I close my eyes at night… and wonder where would I be without You in my life
Everything was just a bore…  All the things I did, seems I’ve done ‘em before
But you brightened up all of my days… With a love so sweet in so many ways
I want to stop (Stop) and thank You, Jesus
I just want to stop (Stop) and thank You Jesus

Chorus

Bridge: You were better to me than I’ve been to myself
For me, there’s You and there ain’t nobody else

Got the message? Jesus provides shelter in His loving hands. He understands everything you go through. He is totally devoted to you and will never break your heart. He brightens up your dark days and shows you His love in so many ways. As the saying goes, “Can’t nobody do me like Jesus!” With Him holding your heart, you will truly experience How sweet it is to be loved by Him!

So this Valentine’s Day, just stop, and thank Jesus for holding your heart and never breaking it. He lives as  your heart holder so entrust it to Him and not to a person who will eventually, whether intentional or not, break it. But Jesus never will!

I don’t know about you, but I am entrusting my heart, my worth, my feelings, my plans, my purpose to Jesus. In fact, I entrust my entire life to the only one who will always guard and hold my heart in His tender loving hands. If I do, I will experience those lyrics,  How sweet it is to be loved by You…Ooh Jesus! How sweet it is to be loved by You!

Why? Simply …

Happy Valentine’s Day!
