Toss the Cape
Our fascination with super heroes points to our deep desire to be able to go beyond human abilities… especially mothers or women in general. We feel we must do it all.. be all for our husbands, children, grandchildren and other significant people in our lives. Asking for help signifies weakness. We slap on our “Superwoman or Supermom” title and put on the cape.
We tend to feel we are less than a Proverbs 31 woman, especially women who live without a helpmate in the home. We get beat down physically, emotionally, and mentally, but we get up, jump on the treadmill of life and run. Until something interrupts the treadmill…
I helped a dear friend as she recovered from surgery due to a painful and serious wrist injury. She wanted to keep her title of “Super mom” trying to do what she used to do before the accident, but realized she needed help. Asking for help for her physical injury took a lot of letting go and just saying thank you to those offering help. But she learned to do it.
Here lies the divine irony of this situation. While I rendered some help to her physical pain, she ended up ministering to my emotional pain. The Lord knew what we both needed and sent me to her for my healing as I helped her heal. I couldn’t fix my problem—only He could. I needed to take my eyes off of my situation, get off the treadmill, spend more time with Him and focus on His desire for me. I needed to toss the cape.
My sisters, God’s desire for me and you is not to be a super woman, but a women who serves the SUPERNATURAL FATHER! He wants us to get our priorities aligned. He desires us to pursue Him first by consistently reading scripture, praying, meditating, and studying His word. 1 Thessalonian 2:13 reminds us that “the word of God performs its work in you who believe.”
Super human power comes from complete surrender to Christ by adhering to, trusting in, and relying on God’s word. He knows what we need and He can fix anything… no limitations exists with Him. So we can toss our capes and fly on His back , because He’s got our backs!
God gave us everything we need to live a life of fulfillment and joy. The resurrection power living in you and me allows us to manage any role, tackle any task, and power through any pain. Sounds like someone with super hero power? Jesus never asked us to be super women. He only desires that you and I become the best version of the woman He created.
My dear friend kept reminding me of my beauty, worth, and position in Christ. She called on reinforcement from another dear sister who fed into my spirit. They poured love, wisdom, and correction into me, and encouraged me in the word…a cord of three strands.
Proverbs 11:25 says, “The generous person will be prosperous, And he who waters will himself be watered.” Again, the divine irony of God. I had no way of knowing that an attempt to bless my friend would eventually become a blessing in my own life. God delights so much in seeing us love and bless others that He turns that love and blessing back on us in double measure! My two sisters blessed me more than they will ever know.
I don’t know about you, but I am glad I can toss the cape because I don’t need to be a super woman. I just need to yield to my supernatural Father and allow Him to fix the cause of my pain. Each day my dear friend learned to ask me for more help, and I learned to take the help He sent for me even when I didn’t ask, because He knew what I needed. Jesus keeps reminding me that when I suffer with physical, emotional, mental, or spiritual pain, I can take it to Him and He will always fix it. Why? Simply…
